When asked if he could ever be done with performing Mahler, Paavo Järvi gave a very clear answer. "No, it’s not possible. There is an inner dimension to Mahler that is limitless. The older I get, the more depth I discover in his music and the more I understand how it connects with my inner self and my lived reality. Time after time, I uncover new dimensions and new levels of meaning. Sometimes the music is humorous or frenzied, often impetuous and occasionally also filled with great sorrow". Järvi regularly explores this fascinating musical repertoire and has thrilled audiences with his exciting and detailed interpretations. He is now embarking on a new exploration of Mahler’s music and hopes to play all the great composer’s symphonies together with the Tonhalle-Orchester. In Hamburg, he will be sharing his insights into the Sixth Symphony. He feels it shows us "that we all only get to spend a short time on earth".
